These stunning pillow covers are done in the Hawaiian style of quilting, inspired by Nature and Hawaiian Culture. While quilting outdoors, the Hawaiian Quilter traditionally has incorporated shadow patterns made by either the Sun or Moon shining through plants and trees, such as the popular Ulu [breadfruit] tree motif used here. Echo stitching surrounds and follows the outline of the pattern, echoing the patterns shape just as the ocean waves 'echo" the shores of the Islands.
The legendary Hawaiian Paniolo [cowboy] is an important part of Hawaii’s past, working and living simple yet colorful lives, riding the slopes of Mauna Kea and the plains of Waimea. Their faithful and trusted steeds are depicted on these most unusual dramatic pillow covers.
